Hello, I'm William, Thanks for coming,

i have been carving stone by hand without the use or aid of power tools for over a decade. For me, striking the chisel with the hammer gives me an INTIMATE contact with the stone that i don't believe one can get with power tools.

There is nothing like carving Gorgeous White Italian Carerra Marble ie Michael Angelo Statuario... it is addictive to be sure.

My work is about an intricate fluidity, contrasting quiet areas with movement.

I love carving faces. i'd go so far as to say i have a "nose fetish".

I am an an absolute relativist:). A metaphysical naturalist ...

i am a student of "direct carving". Meaning just toss me a rock and i'll find what's inside....NOT taking a predetermined or drawn concept then making the stone conform. With the exception of carving portraits of course...artistic license not withstanding.

Portraits in stone, when you get a chance look how sculptors have chisled the "BUST" of their client...not so much how, as *What* have they done to project the life and personality of the bustee;) i suppose that makes me "Busterr" . In the next sequence of work.... i have chosen to carve my daughter, Renee in Stone.

In this piece using photographs of Renee taken by her sister Jennifer i have developed a bust that i feel captures Renee in her element...Wildlife biologist in Fairbanks, AK. Renee has subsequently be recruited by the National Science Foundation...Renee now lives in Arlington, VA

Now a verbal tour of the piece....mounted on 3''x16 "x17" white Marble base...from the left side of the head the hair cascades into my identification with the Aurora Borealis...a feature of her landscape that is soooooooo incredible.... cascading dancing light, hews into stone; Further back is an Eagle, one wing, the SUN symbol arcs down to the hummingbird stylized near the bottom. On the right of the piece, her dog ....and below that a primitive relief of a Musk Ox...signifying the tenuous existence of Planet Earth's animals...the Musk Ox was exterminated by non Native Alaskans in the early 1900's ....and today is coming back thanks to the relocation of the Scandinavian Musk Ox herd...Hopefully, Renee, wildlife biologist can help eclipse such pernicious events in the future. From the top of the Eagle (other) wing...down the backside a Salmon jumps over a caribou hey diddle diddle...... did not photo too well, ...and the "lights" danced before the musher.
